Client Testimonials

Parent of a Self-Advocate:

“We have had the pleasure of working with Jan over the last few months with our oldest son (21yrs). Throughout his teenage years we never really knew how to navigate the topics and discussions around sexual health and relied on what was available through his schooling. We addressed questions and concerns as they arose but could always tell there was a gap in understanding. As most individuals with diverse abilities, there are specific strategies required to teach such a complex topic.

Jan comes from a long background of teaching young adults with diverse abilities. We were fortunate to have her work with our son and were impressed with her ability and patience to teach this sensitive topic. She took the time to assess where his current level of understanding was and then used that to develop a plan specific to our son’s level of ability to learn and retain the information. She communicated with us how she would deliver the topics prior to teaching to determine if it aligned with our core values and goals for our son. This we greatly appreciated, and it showed Jan’s awareness of each individuals needs and lifestyle. She discusses topics gently and makes the individual feel at ease. She helped our son set aside the shame that sometimes comes with discussions and curiosity around sexual health, which allowed him to open up to her.

I would highly recommend working with Jan if you need any guidance around teaching sexual health to your child.”

Self-Advocate:

“I would recommend Jan if you are in a relationship. If you want to be in an intimacy relationship you need to know what is pleasurable for your partner and comfortable for you. You might want to tell your partner about it because they might not know unless you bring it up.”
